If you love Peruvian cuisine as much as I do, you don\u2019t want to miss New Jersey\u2019s annual Peruvian festival held around the last Sunday of July. Accompanied by an exuberant parade celebrating the country\u2019s culture and national heroes, it\u2019s traditionally staged in \u201cLittle Lima\u201d, a neighborhood in Paterson that\u2019s home to America\u2019s largest Peruvian community. This year\u2019s event was particularly significant in that 2021 is the bicentennial of Peru\u2019s Independence Day.<\/p>\n

\nAnticuchos: tender, marinated beef heart \u2013 Peruvian street food at its finest. Don\u2019t be faint of heart about trying this: it\u2019s just another cut of beef, and a particularly delicious one at that. If you like grilled meat, you\u2019ll love this.<\/p>\n

\nFalling-off-the-bone lamb shank with rice and remarkably delicious beans. <\/p>\n

\nL\u00facuma ice cream. Its flavor has been compared to butterscotch or a mix of maple syrup and sweet potato; it\u2019s difficult to find fresh l\u00facuma locally but the frozen pulp is easy to come by in Latin American markets.
