(But, not gonna lie, I&#8217;m waiting for the post-holiday sales: just as leftover Thanksgiving dinner tastes better the next day, so does leftover half-price Halloween candy.)<\/p>\n<p>In obeisance to the official black and orange Halloween rubric, the black monstermaki (futomaki means thick or fat roll) is wrapped in nori, its conventional costume, and its orange sidekicks are swathed in soy wrappers that come in five flavors\/colors: original soy, sesame, spinach green, turmeric yellow, and paprika orange.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_6199-L-3-edited-1440.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_6199-L-3-edited-1440.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1080\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15802\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_6199-L-3-edited-1440.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_6199-L-3-edited-1440-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_6199-L-3-edited-1440-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_6199-L-3-edited-1440-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_6199-L-3-edited-1440-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/a>I filled them with kani (krab sticks), avocado, cucumber, strips of sweet kanpy\u014d (dried gourd) and most important, eel because \u2013 in keeping with the holiday spirit \ud83d\udc7b \u2013 it\u2019s only one letter away from EEK!<\/p>\n<p>And in case you&#8217;re wondering &#8211; no, I\u2019m not handing out these spookomaki on October 31; the kids are supposed to scare <em>me, <\/em>not the other way around!<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Futomaki disguised in a Halloween costume \u2013 so I guess that makes it both a trick and a treat.
