A little research and I learned that the Arabic word harissa (\u0647\u0631\u064a\u0633\u0647) means to mash or squash which made some sense. Its main ingredients are sugar, soybean oil, peanuts, flour, cornstarch and sesame seeds (no heat) so, predictably, its dry texture is somewhere along the cookie<\u2013>candy continuum, closer to cookie were it not for the oil. You can readily taste the ground peanuts and sesame seeds along with the intense presence of clove and cardamom.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/UKTB0008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/UKTB0008.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1440\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/UKTB0008.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/UKTB0008-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/UKTB0008-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/UKTB0008-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/UKTB0008-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSimilarly flavored, Khalta has a texture along the gummy bear<\u2013>Turkish delight continuum. Seems like khalta (\u062e\u0644\u0637\u0629) means mix, but probably in a different context. Mitigated by plenty of peanuts and strewn with sesame seeds, it was unusual as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/LMIV5761.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/LMIV5761.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1440\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/LMIV5761.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/LMIV5761-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/LMIV5761-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/LMIV5761-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/LMIV5761-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe most immediately accessible of the three (although TBH the others grew on me eventually) is Labaneyh. This one had a crumbly texture and tasted like a perfumy cross between fudge and white chocolate, no surprise since cacao is listed among the ingredients along with milk, the Arabic word for which is laban (\u0644\u0628\u0646) so that\u2019s logical.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/TXYP4012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/TXYP4012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1440\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9561\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/TXYP4012.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/TXYP4012-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/TXYP4012-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/TXYP4012-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ethnojunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/TXYP4012-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI was unable to ferret out much information about these three sweets despite the manufacturer\u2019s address listed on the packaging which doesn\u2019t seem to relate to much in the real world. Anybody out there know more about these?
